"Skogafass Women" 8"x10" Oil on Panel
In high school me and a friend tried to plan a trip to backpack across Iceland. Well we graduated in 2020 and the pandemic shut down that dream. Life happened and then in 2023 the dream was revived we got together 7 friend some backpacks and with no plan we flew to Iceland. When we got there, we did everything to try to get around Waukena. We tried buses for a while until we found out that they were super unreliable and then when we were in Vic, we decided that the easiest thing was just to go to side of a rat the road and put our thumb out, we spent the next three weeks hitchhiking around the country sometimes getting picked up in just a few minutes and sometimes waiting hours for a ride. We had nowhere to be and had nothing to do. This trip sparked a love for adventure and just the raw feeling of exploration without a real plan for me and my wife. I've tried to replicate this feeling on other trips since this moment. There's just a different connection you get with people in the place that you're around when you're really just trying to connect with them we are meeting the people from all the world as they gave us rides in their car sometimes for five minutes and sometimes for five hours Iceland is truly a magical place and this portrait is just one of the faces and the people that I met while in this country. The reference photo was taken by Kenedee Fry and the portrait is of Abigail love another girl who came on our trip.
